Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Set Up Matters--Do it right and you will LOVE this If you believe that you can just go home, plug it in to your computer and you will be thrilled, you won't because the platform is about 1.5" above your feet and having the right lighting (no sunlight, flourescent not incandescent bulbs) is important. I bought this unit with the intent to install it in a platform that includes a 6 foot extension for putting and a hitting net in front, with large screen TV mounted to the side and 48" dual flourescent lights overhead. This has worked extremely well and I am completely satisfied with the Optishot performance. I like that on the practice range or any course offered, I can practice long shots, short shots, chipping and putting and am impressed with the accuracy. I frequently practice 10' putts and when I roll over the hole on my run with a straight ball, the system shows it going in the hole. For fast action practice, I set it to "no ball" for chipping practice and then can swing almost as quickly as I can reset my club. It has DEFFINITELY helped my game, particularly on and around the green which was not my expected benefit when I bought it. Platform was constructed with 3/4" plywood, with a 1/2" foam carpet pad and then the "astroturf" carpet from Home Depot. The Putting runner is the same materials except I used a 18" x 6' putting runner from the golf store and put up the Calloway indoor/outdoor hitting net. Total additional cost--about $225. (Already had flourescent lighting, and TV) September 20, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Score Changer When I first bought Optishot I complained like some of the other buyers; "distance is not accurate, lighting needs adjusting and my score was higher than normal..." However, it was a gift from my wife, so I had to keep it. As I continued to use the simulator I noticed that my friends were actually doing much better than me. Their swing speeds were higher and their ball flights were straighter. I then realized that even if the information is not dead accurate it is still telling me something...I need to improve. After weeks of playing I learned how to swing my clubs precisely for fades and draws. I then changed my grip and experimented with different swing motions and slowly improved my swing speed by 15 mph. My score went from 110 to 80. Next I tried what I learned on the range..and wow. It is unreal how my game has improved. The truth of the matter is as much as I love golf, I hate going to the range. I did not see much improvement at the range anyway, not enough true feedback. However, with this device, I can accurately measure the impacts of changes in my swing. Practicing is now fun and more importantly, effective. I can even take my Optishot to the range with me and compare results. I am about a 8 handicap, but I think my score will go down much further. If you use this game as feedback to improve your swing and ability to the work the ball, it will give you excellent feedback and assist in lowering your score. This purchase has reduced my score more than any new driver or putter could of ever done. I learned to stop complaining and start swinging...correctly... February 9, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great produce with mods. I have to say this was worth the money and has made my swing better with every club in my bag minus the putter (I don't use the putter with it#. It does require a few Mods and if I were anyone buying it I now I would buy the Mods at the same time to reduce any disapointment. First thing is to pick up a Thick Monster XL Tee Line Turf. I used it with the provided velcro, but the velcro did not last very long so I ended up removing the velcro from both the Optishot and the Monster Turf rough up the optishot with 80 grit sand paper and use Gorilla Glue #I used almost a whole bottle) to glue the Turf down. The only thing I wish I would have done was tape over the sensors first because gorilla glue swells and it covered some of the sensors, but I was able to clean them off good enough for it to still work fine so save yourself some trouble and tape over the sensors first. I use the optishot almost everday for the last 2 months atleast 100+ shots a day with the Monster Turf and I can not even tell it has been hit off at all so goriila glueing the Turf to it does not have me worried at all because the turf is going to outlast the glue which is saying alot. You do have to trim the Turf a little to clear the sensors which is no big deal. Only takes 5 minutes. People that complain about the plastic braking its true if you hit it with the turf that comes with the produce it will brake the plastic under the turf, but it does not affect product at all it still works its mostly empty space under the turf, its just there to hold the turf in place so it does not mess up the electroinics in the game. If your worried about braking it just put the thick turf on before hitting it even once and you will not have to worry about it at all. Anyone worried about missed hits and hurting the sensors don't worry I have hit some of the worst shots even with the thin turf it comes with and I dont think you can mess them up. The other Mods would be the Turf you stand on needing to be elevated. Alot of people say buy the one that has the cut out and you can, but it's expensive. I bought the Hank Haney 4x4 mat and cut out a place for the Optishot and it works perfectly with a thick rubber mat under it to get the elevation. Thats all you need. Having the information from the game has changed my swing completly going from an over the top outside to in to a straght/slight inside to out swing path. Club face is still slightly open more often than I would like, but I'm still working on that. The lighting I use is not optimal, but Its rare I have a missed shot. I would buy another one in a minute if I had to. I love it. September 12, 2014
