Sonnocaddie V500 Color Golf GPS

The Sonocaddie V500 Color Golf GPS is pre-loaded with over 15,000 U.S. courses in full 3-D. The Sonocaddie V500 features both satellite images and video flyovers of each hole. The large touch screen is viewable in bright sunlight and eliminates annoying buttons. Just touch and go with this very intuitive screen. The V500 comes preloaded with full layouts of almost every US golf course- over 16,000 courses. No downloading and annual fees. The sunlight viewable touch screen is the largest Sonocaddie has ever offered. This unit continues with the unique ‘walking golfer’ icon that moves around the fairway indicating the user’s position in real time.

The Touch Point yardage feature is ideal for playing an unfamiliar hole or plotting a lay-up area. The golfer simply touches any point on the screen and immediately sees the yardage from their location to that point, and the yardage remaining from that point to the green. Touch Point works on both the hole layout and the satellite photo. When used on the hole layout- simply touch the screen any time- the yardages to all targets will disappear and the touch point yardages will appear for 5 seconds- then revert to the usual view. You can touch any point… in the woods, over the water, lay up area, and even drag the touch point around the screen. The V500 also offers high resolution Satellite photos and video fly-overs of every course, available as an upgrade. These features and especially the video flyover will prove very useful on long or unfamiliar holes, or even plotting a game strategy the night before a big round.

All shot information is tracked during the round so the golfer can review the round shot-by-shot at a later date. Enter your scores and other stats for each hole. See your stats for the round (GIR, % Fairways, Sand Saves, % Birdies, Bogies, etc). Users may easily edit all courses, or self map and add a new course at any time by placing the course to be edited in the “My Course” folder on the V500. Very user friendly process. Up to 100 user edited courses may be saved on the V500.

Great Product
Date:February 16, 2012
Had this unit for over a year. Great visibility on the course. Simple to use. Never had it glitch. Less than 2 minutes to find satellites.Lock the screen and the unit auto updates from hole to hole. Battery Life is still outstanding. Up to 4 rounds without recharging.
They were quick uploading my local Canadian course and it would be great if they had more Canadian courses preloaded. In Arizona it had all courses I have played. Very accurate yardages always. Great product.

V500 Think twice before you buy.
Date:October 26, 2011
I bought the V500 from Golfsmith because I had good experience with an older Sonocaddie (V300) and I wanted a bigger color screen. 6 weeks and 15 rounds later I must say the V500 was a disappointment. It crashed 4 times and each time I had to reboot and lost the score so far in that round. The touch screen is not accurate despite repeat callibrations. The screen had many times reverted back to the choose-the-hole screen on its own. That is annoying when I am playing a new course where I had to think to figure out which hole I was playing.
When I contacted the manufacturer, I was told it is "inevitable" that the unit will crash from time to time. Oops.
Cons: Difficult to Use, Quality, Poor Design

V500 - Great product
Date:June 4, 2011
The V500 is a great product, easy to use, easy to see --- love it. I purchased the V300 several years ago and was impressed with the quality of the product and the ease of use and having a golf course added to their database. This is my first time dealing with preloaded courses and it's very easy to use. Did not have any problems straight from the box but since I need to use it in the US and Canada, signing up for the full package is necessary but it is a reasonable cost.

Great unit once it was replaced.
Date:February 14, 2011
I took advantage of a trade-in program sonocaddie offered and traded in my V300 for the V500. Once I received the V500 I found that while on the course it would either shut off by itself or go back to a previous screen. I called customer service and had to pay for shipping to send it back. Customer service was OK (other than I had to pay for shipping on an inferior product) Anyway, it was a battery issue and they replaced the unit. The new unit also had a glitch. The preloaded courses would not show up. I could download courses and edit the courses I downloaded, but the courses that came with the unit were nonexistent. So, another shipping charge and a month later I got my third V500. This one works great and I still think it's the best out there. I had a garmin for two hours and took it back because you can't see the screen in bright light. The 3 stars is for sonocaddie sending me junk twice. otherwise a perfect 5
