Golfsmith 48" Combination Ruler:

This essential clubmaker's tool is a durable 48" ruler that measures the true, accurate playing length of finished golf clubs. Use it to measure and mark the accurate length of complete clubs by placing the ruler along the back of the shaft with the club at address. Then read the length directly at the butt of the grip. This is a nice, sturdy piece and is very convenient to use but be very careful with the measurement markings -- the ruler I purchased had two areas of significant concern:
1. The first 12 inch marks are spaced incorrectly. An indicated 12 inches on the sticker is actually only 11 7/8" . Each inch mark is just a hair short of an actual inch so, at one foot, it's an eight of an inch off. Bizarre.
2. The other sticker, which marks 30 to 48 inches, is placed a full 5/16" short of the actual measurements. The increment spacing appears to be accurate on this sticker, but the measurements are 5/16" too close to the zero end. Perhaps this is intentional (to correct for the thickness of the ruler when measuring club length, maybe?) but, if so, wrist-to-floor distances, or any other standard "yardstick" measurements will be incorrect. The product photo clearly shows the 48" indicator mark placed well short of the end of the ruler, which measures exactly 48", by the way.
I have advised GS Customer Service and they are looking into this.

Every club maker should have some kind of heavy duty 48" ruler..This one is works well. Great fit wrist to floor custom length fits and long putter fittings..
