Golfsmith Water Activated Grip Tape (2" x 18 yards):

This environmentally-sensitive 2-sided tape works great, has no chemical smells or messes and doesn't require solvent disposal. The Water Activated Grip Tape works best by misting with a spray bottle. Simply use 2-3 tablespoons of dish soap mixed with 1 quart of tap water for lubrication (NOTE: do not use soap when installing air-cushioned or ribbed grips). Sets up in about 30-45 minutes, but don't over-douse the grip as water solution takes longer to dry than standard solvent.

Inconsistent
Date:December 12, 2011
I've tried a variety of ways to activate this including water, water::soap, water::soap::windex, windex, etc. Sometimes this tape works fine, but no method I've tried consistently works for me. Sometimes 1 or 2 grips out of several will need to be reinstalled, sometimes a whole set will need to be redone. The butt of the grip does not adhere when it fails. Some users get along fine with it, but after two rolls of this I'm going back to the standard tape activated by mineral spirits.
Cons: Difficult to Use, Poor Design

Works well, process is easy
Date:July 10, 2011
Never re-gripped my clubs myself before. First club was tough, but the rest of the set went on perfectly. Once you figure out the first one, and move on, you will never pay to have someone do your grips again. Just remember to keep the tape wet all during the process and it will go quicker.
Pros: Easy to Use, Good Value

Water Activated Grip Tape Works Great
Date:June 22, 2011
I have never replaced my own grips before but didn't feel like messing around with a solvent, so I tried the Golfsmith water activated grip tape. I didn't bother with a spray bottle, just poured some of the soapy water mixture into the grip, plugged the hole at the base to keep it from running out, and poured the soapy water on the tape on the club shaft over my bathroom sink. Initially, it was hard to get the grip opening over the tip of the shaft, but I found that if I stuck the end of my index finger in the grip, wiggled it around a bit to loosen up the opening, then the grips slipped right on, very easily and taking no more than maybe 30-60 seconds per grip (grips installed: Tacki-Mac Dual Molded standard sized). I had a water activated grip tape strip that came with a putter grip I had purchased elsewhere and in contrast to the Golfsmith product, that tape did not let the grip slip on easily but was extremely difficult to install. Although the Golfsmith water activated tape is twice the cost of the standard tape, by the time you factor in the cost of the grip tape solvent (which I guess is mineral spirits), the price is pretty close to even. Given the ease of use of this product, without any nasty solvents to spill, clean up or worry about, I cannot think of a good reason why anyone who doesn't own a pro shop or clubmaking business would even consider the standard grip tape.
Pros: Quality, Easy to Use, Good Value
