Callaway Diablo Octane Driver

The Callaway Diablo Octane Driver is fueled by Forged Composite, which is the lightest, strongest material ever used in golf clubs. The new Diablo Octane Driver features that Forged Composite in the crown, giving it a significant performance advantage over all-titanium drivers. These drivers are configured to deliver unmatched power through superior design, construction and materials. The crown contains 10 million turbostratic carbon fibers that make up 33% of the clubhead, allowing Callaway to precisely control thickness like never before. The result is a clubhead that is lighter but still has an extremely high moment of inertia. This lighter clubhead enables a longer club configuration for faster head speed and ball speed for up to eight additional yards over the Diablo Edge. The chemical milling process selectively removes excess material for precision thickness control across the face and consistently high ball speeds for long distance.

Additional Features:

  • Shaft: Project X
  • No offset
  • Grip: Callaway Rubber Composition
  • Crown Construction: Composite
  • Face Construction: Titanium
  • USGA conforming grooves

The Real Deal

Got the 9.5 degree which has a square head, most have an open face. Only problem is i'm 5' 8" tall, so with old 43 1/2 inch drivers standard lie was the norm. Nowadays the drivers go 45" to 45 1/2 " long yet clubmakers still use standard lie of old, when for golfers of my height, the lie should now be 1 degree flat. What it means is I cant full out way-lay the ball. So I hit it about 1/2 to 3/4 ball-width inside the center of the sweet spot, and not the full-out swing speed. However, I hit it 260 on the fly and straight as heck! Gonna be real fun when I get the lie adjusted. Great swingweight, boring trajectory, forgiving, and the club drills through the ball with no rebound effects of the head, so great feel too. And the club doesnt even fit yet! If you get this club and cant hit it, dont blame the club. ENJOY!!

Heaven!

I was only a beginer golfer and had a junior golf set. So i broke down and bought this driver and oh my god! It dropped my 85 to an 82. Then i got the matching irons and hybrids, and my score dropped to 79. This driver i hit around 275 consistantly and is very forgiving for my horrible slice. . . that is no longer a big problem. My slice went from around 60 yards to the right to around 15. Much easier to play around. The only problem is that the head of the driver keeps slipping off and i just have to go back in and get it pushed back together.
Pros: Easy to Use

Quite Satisfied

My first-ever driver was the Callaway Big Bertha. Although I really liked it, I struggled to find any sort of consistency with it. Last year I finally got onboard with the modern oversize drivers by picking up a Taylormade R7 460. I absolutely loved this driver. The difference in ten years' technology was just unspeakable. THEN I purchased this one.....the Diablo Octane. I've added distance to my drives and I've found that this driver is even more forgiving than the Taylormade [I thought that would be impossible]! The aesthetics top any driver I've seen [head looks great, shaft is a slate color w/ black flames and the diablo face. =) ] and the feel is great. The only little thing I could quibble about would have to be the sticker that comes on the face. It's great that Taylormade wants to advertise their new material, but NOT ON THE FACE! It took some time and some persistent fingernailing to get it off. I would definitely buy this again!

Added 10 yards to my drive instantly. Only hit a few balls on the range before playing my first round with this driver and found nearly every fairway. The forged composite gives the driver a great sound and feel, even on off center hits. I'm more than satisfied with this purchase.
