Ping G10 4-GW Iron Set with Steel Shafts
2009 Hot List Item

The Ping 17-4 stainless steel G10 irons are engineered with extreme low toe-weighting to increase the MOI (moment of inertia) for added forgiveness and consistency. The large, perimeter-weighted head features a new cavity shape and wider sole. The center of gravity is positioned away from the face and low in the club head to promote higher launching, lower spinning shots. By creating a new shape for the Custom Tuning Port (CTP), Ping engineers stabilized the hitting area to produce consistent ball velocity across the entire club face. An elastomer CTP insert helps control vibration for a solid feel.

Features:

  • Low toe-weighting for increased forgiveness
  • Wide sole for high launch and forgiving ground impact
  • Custom Tuning Port (CTP) technology stabilizes face for consistent distance control
  • Elastomer CTP insert creates solid feel
  • Ascending Weight Technology (AWT) shaft design

Disappointed
Date:April 17, 2011
Bought the clubs and have played them for the last month. The clubs feel good but they are a club and a half shorter than my previous irons. Thought it might be due to being a year older so I took my old Callway clubs to the range and hit 3/5/7 irons from both sets and confirmed the new Pings are much shorter. I did switch from a stiff shaft on the Callaways to a regular on the Pings. I have not lost any accuracy but I have to get used to hitting a 6 iron 150 yards and now have a huge gap of 25 yards between my 4 iron and 3 hydrid.
Just a little disappointed at this point. I'll still work with them and hopefully this will somehow correct itself.
Pros: Good Value
Cons: Difficult to Use

Got to try
Date:February 7, 2011
As a 10+ handicap player, I went in to look at the new Callaway X24, Taylormade Burner Plus, 2.0, and R9s. All I can say is, "try these out".
For the mid- to high-handicapper or casual player, these are very forgiving, really get the ball up, and are very consistent. A little hard to work the draw, but not a big deal.
Less forgiving than the Callaway X24s, but more-so than the Burner 2.0s or R9s. If you're low handicapper (5 or less), you'll be looking for more blade, but for everyone else, these are a great value set.
Pros: Quality, Easy to Use, Good Value

Great quality--Large sweet spot--I love them!
Date:November 4, 2010
This is the second set of Ping irons that I have owned. The first set, ISI-K, had graphite shafts and I felt they were too flexible. This time I purchased the steel shafts and I like the distance and feel I get with steel. One thing that bothered me is that they were supposed to be new clubs but the 6 iron had obvious scuff marks on it. It had probably been hit off of a driving range mat. I like the big sweet spot that these irons have and I have found that if I hit each iron perfectly I get about 10 yards further than with my previous set of Cobra irons. I love the Ping grips that came on this set of irons. This is an outstanding set of irons and I higly recommend them. The sale price made the purchase even better.

Two much Vibration
Date:September 3, 2009
I play almost everyday. I switched recently from cobra to ping. I found that i like the cobras better because of the sweet spot. I feel like the ball dosent explode off the club like my cobras did. Also they are very heavy.
Pros: Quality, Durability
Cons: Poor Design
