Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 62 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great Idea, Poor Execution I've owned 3 different models and ALWAYS have continual problems with these devices. Friends and family all have battery issues. I have spent hours on downloading updates and fixes w/ tech support over the 6 years of owning these. Most recently, i have the SGXw (after owing the 3 and 5 models). When it works, it works pretty well but ownership is expensive and tedious. Given the competition out there now w/ no annual fees and almost as much useful data, is an outdated model; especially w/ the other problems w/ ownership of this device. Summary: *Poor battery life *Tech Support very good *Constant software updates *Very unfriendly to using this w/ Mac (fewer problems when i owned PC) *Annual Fees Overall, after 6 years of ownership; i will leave SC and will not look back. Friends have owned Garmins, Golf Buddy and Lasers and NEVER have trouble. Long ago, SC was functionally superior and the shortcomings were relatively tolerable. But today, given the competition, there are probably better choices w/ a better track record and much better cost of ownership over the life of the device. August 29, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by SGX I have several SGX units and all have had issues. The first unit was returned because it froze. The second unit would't allow me to advance and now the 3rd unit. Now the 3rd unit mouse is falling off. I have tried to super glue it back on. I'm not the only one in the neighborhood who has had issues with there units. Two other golfers have had to replace theirs for a total of seven units in 2 years December 19, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by DO NOT BUY! I would like to echo the same dissatisfaction with this lemon of a product. This is my second sky caddie…The first was an older model and worked fine for the time I had it. The unusual part of it though was with the recharging piece…It was a screw-in recharging component. As we all know, screws and the receivers tend to strip over time. So I had a working device in concept but had no way of re-charging it after the screw and receiver were stripped from recharging over a couple of years…so whoever came up with that design, kudos for being such an engineering marvel…I liked the concept of the skycaddie but because I had a device that could no longer receive a charge, I decided to buy another unit. Checked the charging component and looked like there would be no issues. I purchased the SGX model and again fell in love with the concept and the new features…As the fall was approaching I noticed some issues with recharging. Being from Boston, I pretty much shut down golfing in November into December so I put my skycaddie away for the season. Opened it up in the spring and the recharging issues came to light again. Called Skycaddie and I was told it was out of warranty and that for $89 they could send me a new device. It took me months to finally convince them that for $400 a device should not die after 6 months of use. So they sent me a new device this summer…Guess what, the lemon stopped recharging again in November. I called SkyGolf up and they told me it was out of warranty…a 90 day warranty!!! They told me again that for $89 they could send along another device. I said why would I possibly pay ANY MORE for a device that has failed twice in 6 months for both units that I had? Why should I have more faith in their product ($89) than they do (90 day warranty)? Also, by time I would have received another device over the winter, in 3 months of little use, it would be out of warranty again and I'm 100% certain the device would fail again…STAY AWAY FROM SKYGOLF! Rated 1 out of 5 by SkyCaddie Not Worth the Hassle - Don't Buy One I recommend not purchasing a SkyCaddie GPS by SkyGolf. The device works fine out on the course, but some do many others. The problem is you have to interact with SkyGolf's web site to download individual course data and the like. It is a miserable process. The site is buggy, and the CaddieExpress program that sync's the unit to the web site is horrible. For example, I am playing a new course tomorrow. I went out to upload that course data to the skycaddie, over 4 hours ago. First, the web site insisted on updating the software on the skycaddie. Midway, through the process, the site crashed. Now the skycaddie is dead, and although I followed the online recovery process, it remains dead. I am now watching an advanced tech person, controlling my computer remotely, try to fix the problems. He does not seem to be having much success. This is not the first time I have had to go through this kind of dance just to download a course. Not worth the hassle. I RECOMMEND YOU BUY SOMETHING ELSE, ANYTHING ELSE. September 15, 2013
