Titleist AP1 712 4-GW Iron Set with Steel Shafts

Dedicated to providing serious golfers with the highest performing equipment in golf, Titleist introduces the next generation of its groundbreaking Advanced Performance irons. The new Titleist AP1 Iron stays true to the design mission of "Advanced Performance with Feel." It is a multi-material, dual cavity iron that provides modern ball flight and forgiveness with the traditional look, feel, and sound that serious golfers have come to expect from a Titleist iron. The new AP1 model features sleeker contours that result in a better address position, and the iron has been improved with internal weighting that utilizes higher density tungsten in order to distribute mass more efficiently which increases the moment-of-inertia (MOI) without changing the CG location or the blade length. The higher MOI provides more consistent ball speed across the clubface and better distance control. Better distance control leads to more scoring opportunities and is the key to good iron play. Finally, this iron provides more forgiveness without any loss of workability or shot control.

Additional features:

  • Set composition: 4-Iron thru Gap Wedge
  • Finish: chrome

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 9 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Titleist AP1 Made the right choice. Extremely happy with the irons. Very easy to hit. more distance that my old set. June 29, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Clubs! I have been a Titleist homer my whole life. Nearly every club in my bag has been Titleist for years. I recently test hit these irons, and my initial reaction was "Whoa.... that exploded with ease!" I am currently replacing my old cavity back irons for a more advanced iron, but unfortunately due to my last job I have not been able to play the last few years. Now that I got a new gig, I will be able to play a lot more like my old days. That is when I decided to upgrade the irons in the bag to something that had less of a "skillet on a stick" look to it. First look at address, these baby's look slick. A slightly thicker topline than most advanced players would like to see, but just thin enough to make you feel like you can work the ball while still holding confidence with your distance and control on mis-hits. You can thank the advanced toe & heel weighting under the hood for that. A couple of swings and you will notice the ease of control, Titleist hit a homerun in that respect. With the slight offset, this club offers a draw naturally, but I found I could still work the ball if I wanted to. Secondly, the sound this club makes at impact gives you goosebumps. I felt that this is something that sets the AP1's apart from the rest of the field in the GI class. That sound will make any player confident with their swing throughout their entire round, I am a very firm believer in that. If it is distance you are after, these clubs offer a respectable increase (I managed to hit the 6 iron 175-180 consistently whereas my old 6 topped out around 170 yds). They didn't offer as much distance as the Mizzy JPX 825's did, but surprisingly they performed better than the rest of the field (I'm speaking to you, TaylorMade) from a distance perspective. These clubs are great for any golfer straddled between a 4-28 handicap. I know there are a few tour players out there that actually have these in their bag (yes, they are that good). That's why it might come to a surprise to anyone reading this that I actually did not purchase these irons after testing them. I ended up pulling the trigger on Mizuno's JPX 825 Pro irons (thinner topline, forged, easier to work the ball, traditional blade look with a small cavity, easier to hit than most would expect). But I had to write a review of these AP1's just purely out of respect for the club. In my opinion the AP1's put Titleist at the head of the class in the cast iron GI department. I would recommend these irons to anyone looking to improve their game, especially if they want forgiveness and distance but would also like to learn how to work the ball more. These clubs won't punish you for mis-hitting a draw or cutshot, you will just have to try harder to shape your shot better the next time :) Buy these, I highly doubt you will regret it. May 7, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by AP1 712 Lovely irons, well worth the money and time being fitted for them. April 1, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent irons These irons are fantastic. I decided on the AP1s after hitting Callaways, Ping G20, and TaylorMade Burners. Just felt more solid and had less scatter on the fitting simulator. I would caution anyone about changing lie angles according to your fitting. I initially ordered 2 degree upright to try to straighten out my fade and didn't think it would make a big difference after hitting the standard set so well. However, I took my custom clubs out and had a lot of trouble with even making solid contact. Fortunately I was within the 30 day window and the guys at my local Golfsmith could not have been nicer about exchanging them for a standard "off the rack set" which has far exceeded my expectations. Even with a slight mis-hit, very little loss of distance and accuracy. Great feel and sound on contact. December 15, 2012
