Garmin Approach S3 GPS Watch - Black/Gray

The Garmin Approach S3 GPS Watch is a device golfers can use from the tee box to the green. It expands upon the distance-to-the-green information (front, middle, and back) found in the popular S1 and adds additional features to navigate the entire hole and speed up play. The convenient and easy-to-use touchscreen has been added to designated buttons and makes an already easy-to-use interface even simpler and glove friendly. The high-resolution display of the S3 has eight-times more pixels than the S1. This added detail offers the capability for more advanced features, such as score keeping for stroke play or Stableford. The screen has high reflectivity that enhances brightness with sunlight so that you can read it anywhere.

Additional features:

  • Glove-friendly, high-resolution touch screen
  • Distance to doglegs, lay-ups, front, middle, and back of green
  • Preloaded with 25000+ worldwide courses (free updates available)
  • No subscriptions or fees required

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 13 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Wrist band Wrist band is not strong enough. It breaks off easily. I once got a replacement part but it broke again. It is so complicated and takes so long to contact the customer support, I gave up. I just carry it in my pocket when I play. It is not convenient to take it out, watch it and put it back into the pocket every time I use it. Don't buy it. Not worth. July 23, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not ready for prime time I bought this thinking it will be faster than using a range finder. Range Finders make it difficult to measure traps/hazards etc. Plus they are larger making a little awkward when carts paths only only or cart restricted. This watch having the touch screen where you can readjust the pin was what I believed to be the final answer to one major flaw. I noticed the yardages seemed to be at least 10 yards off. Especially on the green. Once on the green I noticed it always read 10 yards from the pin regardless where I placed the pin. So I spent an entire round reading the Garmin vs. range finder and found distances that were up to 15 yards off. 1-15 yards for me is one club. For $359 for watch that only allows you to play 1 round and is 10-15 yards off. I'll pass for now. May 28, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 SPOT- ON DISTANCES I bought the Garmin GPS Wristwatch because I was tired of guessing at the distances on both my home course and other courses I play on. After just two weeks my shot making ability has improved immensely. I only have to look at my wristwatch to get accurate distances to the hole. This has led to me knowing exactly what club to use for what distance and better yet to let me know exactly how far I hit certain clubs. Other hand held devices may give you more information such as bird's eye views of every hole but frankly i don't need that. The Garmin is a simple and accurate way of estimating distances to the hole. I am very satisfied with it. The only drawback is that I have to recharge after two rounds. August 13, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Garmin appears to have fixed a problem Garmin has communicated they have a new software update fixing the problem highlighted below by 2 users regarding inputting location information. As I returned my watch I cannot confirm this is fixed. Perhaps someone else can test and confirm. My rating below assumes this is fixed July 26, 2012
