Rated 4 out of 5 by Really Solid, But Remember These Are Hybrids Just spent a couple of hours moving around the front nine of my club doing nothing but hitting these new 588 Altitude"s. I really have benefited from adding two other hybrids to my bag and taking out a 4 and 5 iron. The hybrids are simply easier for me to be consistent with shot for shot. I hoped I would find the same thing with the Altitudes. No doubt they felt good. Sounded a little tinny, but had a nice heft to them and they were five yards longer than my i20's. I did find that I needed to work on my timing a little with them. Maybe because they feel a little heavier, I had to really focus on transition at the top. If I was quick I lost them to the right a little easier than the i20's. If I transitioned well the Altitudes were much more accurate than the i20's and elevated the ball easier even with the 5 iron. Maybe that would be a good description of the way you must be smooth with a hybrid. By the way, that's what these are - hybrids. I think it will take a few rounds to get use to the Altitudes and with the grass dormant I will be interested to see how they hit off a little more grass. They don't seem to mind thin lies, but I bet they will really like an blade or two under the ball. And try the wedges from sand. I only had the gap wedge, but I gave it a go and was really impressed. I'm not a very reliable sand player, but I had a distinct feeling I should buy the SW and go to work. I really believe it would help me. So why the Four Stars instead of Five. The sound as well as needing to learn how to hit a pitching wedge like a 20 degree hybrid were the difference for me. Once I spend a few days with them I may give the the Fifth Star. I will add to my review in the next couple of weeks. If you play hybrids well and want to be more consistent through your bag, the Altitudes might be your answer. December 4, 2012
