TaylorMade RocketBladez 4-PW, AW Iron Set with Steel Shafts

The first distance iron to make it on tour, TaylorMade RocketBladez Irons are powered by the Speed Pocket. This little thing has changed the iron forever. Only RocketBladez are powered by the Speed Pocket to promote radically increased speed and distance. This revolutionary technology is engineered for optimum face-flex, creating a consistent and stronger ball flight. RocketBladez are the true blend of the finesse the pros demand and the explosive distance amateurs crave. Get them or get left behind.

RBZ Speed Pocket

Inspired by the distance-enhancing benefits of the RBZ Speed Pocket technology that makes RocketBallz fairway woods and Rescues so fast and long, TaylorMade engineers found a way to incorporate a Speed Pocket into irons. The result is a once-in-a-lifetime innovation that revolutionizes iron performance not only in terms of distance, but also distance-control and feel.

The RBZ Speed Pocket in RocketBladez irons flexes and rebounds at impact, increasing the speed of the face to promote faster ball speed and a higher, stronger ball flight that lands on a steep, quick-stopping descent angle. This Speed Pocket advantage is especially effective on impacts made low on the face, TaylorMade studies indicate that 72% of iron shots hit by amateur golfers are struck below center face.

The RBZ Speed Pocket in all RocketBladez iron models is filled with a Polyurethane Reactive (PUR) made by 3M that keeps out debris and dampens unwanted vibration while still allowing the slot to flex at impact.

The RBZ Speed Pocket, in conjunction with the highly sophisticated face design (11% thinner than TaylorMade’s previous thinnest), adds up to 10 COR points to the face compared to Burner 2.0 irons, and promotes dramatically less drop-off in ball speed on impacts low on the face—where the majority of iron mis-hits occur. That means the COR low on the face is higher than it’s ever been in a TaylorMade iron, and the benefit is that thin shots carry significantly farther.

Ultra-thin clubface with improved Inverted Cone design

The RocketBladez clubface consists of strong, maraging stainless steel. It is TaylorMade’s most sophisticated clubface design yet, made possible by more evolved analysis and testing and their increasing mastery of the manufacturing processes. It’s the thinnest iron face they’ve ever created, with the top section now 1.6 mm, down from 1.8 – that’s 11% thinner. RocketBladez irons also incorporate their newest and most effective iteration of Inverted Cone Technology. The improved Inverted Cone design delivers two critical benefits. One, it increases the size of the clubface area that delivers high ball speed. Two, it influences how the face flexes and rebounds at impact to control the angle at which the ball leaves the face, promoting straighter shots and a tighter dispersion. This is a critical benefit that promotes significantly greater accuracy compared to previous high COR irons.

Low and centered CG location

Impacting the ball where the CG is located on the face is critical to achieving maximum ball speed. In RocketBladez irons, TaylorMade engineers fine-tuned the CG to a low and absolutely centered location on the face by shortening the hosel to save weight and taking additional weight from the top of the club, then redistributing it all in strategic areas within the head. In the RocketBladez clubhead design, 17.5 grams of redistributed weight enabled us to lower the CG by 2.5 mm compared to the Burner 2.0 iron. Locating the CG lower and in the center of the face makes it easier to consistently find the sweetspot to achieve maximum energy transfer from club to ball, promoting a higher launch angle and maximum distance.

External and Internal Hosel-bending Notches

RocketBladez irons feature a distinct external notch on the outer, rear side of the hosel and an internal notch inside that together make it easy to bend the head to change the lie angle. That’s a distinct advantage to bendability when employing high-strength stainless steel in the head construction.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Clubs These clubs are the real deal!! I tested many irons before I chose the Rocket Bladez. Ping G25, Ping G20, Amp Irons, Nike Covert, Taylor Made R11, and Callaway X Hot. The clubs feel great in the hands and have a very powerful forge like feel at impact. My second time out with my irons, I hit a HOLE IN ONE on a par 3 from 110 yards out with my pw. It was hole number 4 at Greenway golf course in Broomfield, Co. I was also using the new Taylor Made Lethal golf balls, which are very powerful and have a nice soft feel around the greens. Hopefully as I continue to become a better ball striker, I can up grade to the tour versions. These clubs are powerful, sound amazing, large sweet spot and you can also work the ball. These clubs are perfect for mid handicappers looking to lower their score. Get These Clubs and the Lethal Ballz!!!! April 8, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by One Of The Best I've Ever Hit. Well, I needed to replace my RocketBallz set that was lost in Hurricane Sandy. They were an amazing set and I was contemplating getting an exact replacement. Then I saw how many good sets were coming out this season. So I went to Golfsmith and compared the RocketBladez, the Mizuno JPX-825, the Callaway X-Hot, and the Ping G25. All 4 sets are good, let me just say that. After about 3-4 hours of going back and forth, I compared my results. I was a full club length longer and an average of 4 yards more online with the RocketBladez. I'm not much of a fade/draw player. So I got fitted and tried a custom set and hit them even better. Took them to the range today and I was simply amazed at how much more distance I've gained. A 7-iron averaging 165 yards? I've never done that in my life. I can't wait to get these babies on the course. Even hit it fat and thin a few times and the accuracy remained, with a penalty of maybe 6 or 7 yards left of target. That's something I didn't see with my RocketBallz. Contrary to a prior review, when you hit the hosel, it stings no more than any other iron you hit. TaylorMade has struck gold once again. They look like blades and play with forgiveness without sacrificing distance. April 6, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by PLAYING MUCH BETTER! I've had my RocketBladez for a little over a month now. Took me a few weeks and some range time; but now I'm hitting the ball so much better. Before, I mainly shot in the low 100's with an occasional score in the 90's. Now, I'm consistently in the 90's, and I'm still improving. My last tournament I won in "D" Flight. My handicap has dropped 3 points. I hit these clubs 10 to 15 yards further than my old Adams set. Make sure you get fitted to get the proper shaft material, flex and length. I ended up with one inch over on the shaft, and two degrees flat on the hossel. One of my golfing buddies told me he had never seen a set of clubs make such an improvement! March 15, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Performance lives up to the hype! I have never wrote a review before on irons. I have played many different irons from Adams to other Taylormade irons and everything in between. The norm for me is to really be impressed in the beginning and having very bad rounds towards the end. Of course it is bad equipment, not my terrible golf swing. So off I would go with another set in search of my iron utopia. The Rocketbladz were great in the beginning. I was accurate and LONG. But I expected to have that familiar downslide, so I just kept playing without getting too excited. Well I have played over a dozen rounds and they have been pretty good to really good, no wheels off round! I am not getting the unwanted lesson from other golfers I play with. Silence is golden. I have confidence in every iron from 4I to GW. Ball flight is medium low and penetrating. I usually end up a little left of my intended target, but I can live with that all day long. I feel like a real golfer now. I think I have actually found my iron utopia. They also are keeping their luster, so if I ever wanted to resale I could, but that is not going to happen for years.
