TaylorMade RocketBallz Stage 2 Fairway Wood

With the TaylorMade RocketBallz Stage 2 Fairway Wood, a lower and more-forward center of gravity location promotes a faster ball speed, higher launch, and lower spin, resulting in better players gaining up to ten more yards compared to the original RocketBallz fairway wood. Ultra-high strength TaylorMade RocketSteel supplied by Carpenter creates a thinner and faster-flexing face, and the improved Speed Pocket design flexes faster to promote faster ball speed and more distance. A shallower face and lower head profile offers increased playability and easier launch, while the thick-thin crown design saves weight which is redistributed to improve the center of gravity location.

Additional features:

  • Black clubface, non-glare white crown, and new crown graphic all promote easy alignment
  • Ultra-light Matrix RocketFuel graphite shaft promotes fast swing speed

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Does what it says This is a great club. Easy to hit off the tee and not bad off the deck! The HL version is essentially like a 4-wood but it is as long or longer than my old TM (2007) Burner 3 wood (15 degree loft) even though it has a 17 degree loft. And it IS high launch which for a short hitter like me is helpful because on longer par 4s where I may need to hit this into the green there is a chance it will hold given the high launch! Rated 5 out of 5 by Believe the hype I have to admit to having golf ADHD, especially when it comes to equipment, so I tend to try out many of the new releases. In many cases you can get a hint of what the manufacturers are saying, but for me rarely does it transalte to much longer shots or significantly lower scores on the course. Not so this product. From the look (even ignoring the graphics) at address to the feel of the first strike, this club is certainly different from the first RBZ fairway wood. For me, the previous model lauched too high and i had a hard time hitting it consitently at my target as it seemed to want to fight my natural shot share, a power fade. Result, ok distance and marginal accuracy...for me; results not necessarily typical :-) With the Stage 2, the ball flight is more penetrating, with an incredibly satifying sound and feel off the face, and results in a longer, straighter shot pattern. It reacts well to deliberately hitting higher or lower shots as desired. I like the consistency for 'regular' shots, while still being able to shape the ball and getting the result you'd expect from the swing. I've tended not to use my fairway wood from the tee in the past, and certainly found this club a pleasure to hit from fairway to medium rough, but the biggest surprise was the result I got from the tee--super consistent line and trajectory, and very good distance. In the past I would only pull a 3 wood for a tee shot if it was a long par 3 and the distance decreed it--now it is a genuine option for me on par 4s and 5s. I doubt I'll kick the habit of trying the new clubs as they're released, but the RocketBallz Stage 2 Fairway Wood has set a very high bar. I expect to have it in my bag for a good long while to come. Rated 5 out of 5 by ignore previous review Last review obviously came from a guy who had never hit the club. I've had the original rocketballz since they came out and have loved it for the most part. V1 was very long off the tee and dead straight. Some said that it had a bit of a draw bias but I never got that. if you hit it on the screws, the ball would launch straight, far and high for a 3 wood. The only real problem I had with it was launching off the deck. Unless you had a perfect lie, it was impossible to consistenly hit it. this meant that attacking long par fives was not a safe proposition with this club. Enter the S2: So I went to golf smith to see if there was any truth to the rumor that this thing would be hit off the deck. I picked up the S2 and immediately felt a difference over the original rocketballz 3 wood. The shaft was light, the head was smaller and the weight felt more pushed toward the rear of the club. I stepped up to the monitor and immediately starting blasting shot off the tee. The S2 proved to be about 5-10 yards over the original but where it really shined was when I starting cranking them on the course. I had my first chance to hit this thing off the deck on a 545 yard par 5. hit a driver 290 and decided to pull out my newly acquired S2. I had a decent lie but was just in the first cut of rough. under normal circumstance, I would have risked it but I wanted to give the club a chance to win me over. took a smooth swing and launched it right at the flag. ball flew far, straight and bounced 10 feet from the pin. Since then, I've had a couple more opportunities to attack green off the deck with this thing and the results could be better. This club has literally changed the way I play. probably saves me about 3-4 strokes a round. all in all, better feel than the original, much easier to hit off the deck and slightly lower ball flight. the only gripe I have with this club is the weight. it's a bit on the light so so I have a tendancy to over swing it a little. I did adjust to this quickly but the first 20 or so shots were wonky. since adjusting, I've never hit a 3 wood further, straighter or more consistently than the S2. February 11, 2013
