Ping Rapture Fairway Wood

The Ping Rapture Fairway Wood is a versatile driver alternative that can inspire confidence while improving your distance and accuracy. Tungsten weighting in the forgiving Ti 8-1-1 head, paired with an extreme high-balance-point shaft, creates faster ball speeds for generating explosive distance off the tee or from the turf.

An injection-molded tungsten sole plate accounts for nearly 25% of the clubhead mass, which positions the center of gravity (CG) much lower than a traditional fairway wood, resulting in high launch and low spin for added distance. A tall, extreme-variable-thickness face enlarges the hitting surface for increased forgiveness while accelerating the ball speed to send the ball far.

The Rapture Fairway Wood has a 13° loft, which can be adjusted +/- half-degree using Ping's Trajectory Tuning Technology featuring an ultra-lightweight hosel for optimizing launch angle and spin rate. Ping's proprietary TFC 949 high-balance-point graphite shaft promotes an increase in momentum and inertia (MOI) for improved energy transfer, resulting in faster ball speeds and greater distance.

Additional features:

  • Titanium head, tungsten sole plate
  • 13° loft, adjustable +/- 1/2°
  • High-balance-point shaft technology

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Straight Beats Distance Purchased this club last week in an effort to shave a few strokes off my card caused by errant drives. I was skeptical, but loved the idea of a shorter, more controllable club with similar loft to a driver. I've only played with it twice so far, but love it. VERY solid feel and sound, only 5 to 10 yards short of my driver, and MUCH straighter. The low center of gravity really helps get the ball up off the fairway, and no more long tees. I'm still adjusting to it, but have been losing 4 to 5 strokes per round with the driver, and after only two rounds with this club, shaved that number to 1 per round. As a single digit handicapper, that is a HUGE number. I have a garage full of drivers, and that's where they'll stay. Only drawback is cost. It doesn't come cheap. Best new club I've tried in years. Rated 1 out of 5 by Duck Hook Machine I tried hitting this club but eventually had to return it. It is a duck hook hitting machine. The draw bias on this clubs make it very difficult to hit fades or even straight shots. If you want to draw, this may be a good club for you. However, the draw bias caused too many duck hooks for me. The adjustment on the club is very minimal therefore the club can not be changed to open face like most other popular manufactures. At this price, it should adjust anyway you desire. I did however make the adjustment to return it. Thank you Golfsmith. July 19, 2014
