TaylorMade SLDR Mini Driver

TaylorMade SLDR Mini Driver: Finally, a 3-wood Designed for the Tee

TaylorMade created a new golf club that incorporates their cutting edge metalwood technology, including the distance-enhancing Speed Pocket, and sized it between a 3-wood and 460cc driver. Itís incredibly accurate and longer off the tee than a 3-wood. At 260cc, the SLDR Mini Driverís footprint is larger, and face deeper, than a 160cc 3-wood. That gives you more stability and forgiveness on mis-hits and allows you to tee the ball higher, which makes the it easier to launch off the tee than a 3-wood. The SLDR Mini Driver has a low-forward CG like the rest of TaylorMadeís SLDR metalwoods, and a Speed Pocket too, which promotes more ball speed and less spin to give you more distance when you loft up.

In addition, the SLDR Mini Driverís relatively short shaft (43.5" compared to 45.5" for the average driver) gives you the added clubhead control necessary to help you hit the ball straighter. Thereís more. The Mini Driverís sole, smaller than a driverís, is designed to make it easy to hit this club off the deck. Thatís why, even though itís called a SLDR Mini Driver, youíre going to want to replace your 3-wood with it. Then youíll have a great option for long, accurate tee shots when placement in the fairway is vital. And you've got the perfect club for getting home in two on those previously unreachable par-5s. Because everything that makes the SLDR Mini Driver long and accurate off the tee makes it long and accurate off the turf too.

We noticed that Tour pros and better amateurs hit their 3-wood off the tee a lot more frequently than from the fairway, so we embraced that insight and used our cutting edge metalwood technology to create a club that is designed for the tee, with a size that fits in between 3-wood and driver. - Brian Bazzel, TaylorMade Senior Director - Metalwood Product Creation

Ratings and Reviews for the TaylorMade SLDR S Mini Driver

Write a Review for the TaylorMade SLDR S Mini Driver
Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Retro Driver from the 1990's Footprint (size and shape) for SLDR Mini Driver is based on TM Ti Bubble 2 Driver that was very popular in the 1990's (remember Tom Lehman). SLDR Mini is 'steel' while the Bubble 2 was 'titanium' based (the sole and technology is different). Bought this to replace my 3 wood and hit from the fairways as 'touted' in their blurbs and ads. Found it to be perfectly acceptable for teeing off, but you do need a good to decent lie from the fairways. My SLDR Mini is 14* loft and from fairway launches quite low, since you're not swinging up to meet the ball, so the trajectory is quite low compared to my other 14* 3 wood. It's a good club to hit a stinger and the shorter shaft, though it is still the standard 1990's driver length, makes it easier for players having difficulty with longer length shafts; the tradeoff here would be the club head size for these players. Sadly, it's not an adjustable club that allows experimentation on loft which would have made these clubs more versatile. If you still wish to purchase one of these: 1) for use strictly as driver (teed ball) buy 12* loft; 2) for dual purpose (driver - high launch and 3 W - low launch) buy 14* loft; and 3) more as a 3 wood (from fairways) buy 16* loft. As an added note, wish manufacturers get away from 'black' face on their wood offerings - one hit from a low lipped fairway sand bunker gave my club a very 'experienced' sand blasted look. Rated 4 out of 5 by This item is pretty good. The Mini Driver is a great concept. I love it. It hits long off the tee and pretty good off the fairway. Only thing that I would love to have on the club is its ability to adjust the lie. Don't care too much about adjusting the loft but having the avility to adjust the lie will be great. Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Club I got 12 degree loft and had concern about whether I was able to hit it off the deck or not. Recieved the clud and tried at the range and I found that there is no difference between my current 3 wood 15 degree loft and the mini - might be slightly easier to hit. For distance, I do not see significant gain - maybe little. Compare to current 3 wood (15 degree), the mini has lower flight - again I got 12 degree loft. For usablity, again, it is very easy to use. Maybe easier than my current 3 wood from the tee and deck. For feel, very responsive. You can tell whether you hit center of the club face or not. Each club has different feel for the center hit and the mini has very nice feeling - somewhat soft but nice compression. September 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A club that lives up to the hype After struggling for several years to get off the tee box and in the fairway, I finally invested in the TaylorMade's mini driver. I have found that I'm able to put the ball in play with much greater consistency and am able to relax on the tee and think more about where I want the ball to land and less about will I be able to find it for the next shot.
